Ecology with an accent.

A planned new sports accommodation in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands, requires integrated urban planning, including assessment of ecological aspects.

In support of urban planning developments in Enschede, I joined a team of landscape architects in providing ecological advice and nature-based solutions.

Commissioned by primary school De Step in the Belgian Beringen, I helped draw up a subsidy application for the ‘Nature in your school’ programme, to green their school environment.

In this project I develop a municipal biodiversity monitoring plan.

Commissioned by Stad Antwerpen, this project developed a master plan to make the water system the spatial carrier of the area.

A European consortium develops the EU Science Service for Biodiversity, the scientific pillar of the EU Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity.

On a regular basis I assess European projects on biodiversity that are funded by the European Commission, or proposals that were submitted for funding in response to a call.

I developed an assessment framework for the EU Regulation on invasive alien species and recommended ways to present the outcome of such assessment.

I give ecological advice to (garden) architects and building contractors to avoid damage to species and to offer nature-oriented measures.

Production of a folder summarizing the key indicators as part of a European review of the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2020 and the ETC/BD strategy development.

For the SPONFOREST project on spontaneous forest development, I produced a policy brief with the project’s key messages.

As service providers for the Council of Europe I provide research-based advice to the Bern Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats.

I co-manage Oppla, a global marketplace and the EU repository on nature-based solutions.

For a planned road construction I analysed the possible impact on nature values of a Natura 2000 area and how these could be reduced or compensated.

I developed and implemented a biodiversity monitoring network for the municipality of Tilburg.

I helped improve access to and classify content that is offered through BISE, the Biodiversity Information System for Europe.

For renovating an office building I was BREEAM ‘ecology champion’. I assessed nature impacts of renovation works, proposed measures to support nature and advised on creating a biodiversity garden.

Producing a policy brief of the 2017 ALTER-Net conference, presenting the key discussions and findings to policymakers and other stakeholders at the European and national levels.

As technical expert I monitor and guide LIFE Nature projects in the Benelux and support the LIFE programme with publications, presentations and events.
