The municipality of Enschede has set itself the goal of realizing at least 9,300 new homes by 2030. The โWethouder Horstman Sportparkโ, located in the northwest of the municipality, plays a crucial role in this as an expansion location. Various elements come together in this area, including water, soil, nature, and sustainable energy. This ambitious project not only includes the creation of a residential area with various housing typologies in the middle of a park-landscape environment, but also sets a sustainable and future-oriented energy system as a priority. In order to shape this, the municipality has asked for a spatial action framework to be proposed in which these elements come together. Based on the advice, a concrete implementation plan will be drawn up at a later stage.
Following previous cooperation with Felixx landscape architects in Antwerp, under their leadership I now assessed the possible impact on flora and fauna of various development variants and inventoried the legal obligations in relation to the Environmental Act. In addition, I provided ecological advice for the integration of development variants into landscape and ecology, in order to strengthen the natural values and offer nature-based solutions โโas much as possible.
